Hyundai Getz (02-09) - Review

Review by Parkers on
Last Updated: 27 January 2009
The Getz is one of Hyundai's most popular models and it's easy to see why. Cheap to run, spacious inside and a five-year warranty as standard make it a good choice if you're looking for an affordable and easy to drive car. There are few thrills to be had though and it's not especially comfortable either, with a cheap and dated interior plus a bouncy ride. The dull looks do little to help raise the temperature but at least there's good passenger space, particularly in the back where it is impressively roomy for such a small car. There's also a good choice of engines including the CRTD diesel which is cheap to tax and returns 63mpg.

Buying used

The Getz is cheap to start with and initial depreciation is heavy, so you should get a bargain if you buy secondhand. There are plenty available in the Hyundai Approved Used network, but we’d recommend that you go for one with lots of kit and pick the 1.3-litre petrol or 1.5-litre diesel engine. Buying a car from this scheme will ensure a mileage and vehicle history check, a 30-day exchange and a pre-sale examination, plus a year’s roadside assistance. Approved Used cars are also covered by the warranty and you can transfer the remainder of your cover to the next owner.

Selling

There’s a healthy demand for used superminis (they make great first time cars or weekend runabouts) and the Getz offers a good level of equipment and a long warranty. Image and badge snobbery will be the biggest problems, as Hyundai doesn’t carry the same kudos as some other European brands. Nevertheless, it’s a good hatchback that will sell quickly if it’s priced sensibly and well looked after.
