Summary***--

  • Roomy boot, long warranty, good diesel, well equipped
  • Lacklustre image, similar Ceed SW is cheaper and more spacious

The Hyundai i30 is a well-rounded effort by the Korean brand and a good alternative to European and Japanese models. The estate version builds on this further with a good sized boot, but there's more to it than just improved load lugging ability. A longer wheelbase means rear seat passengers are given extra space, the car offers good comfort and also appears excellent value, particularly when you consider the five-year warranty from new. It's not exciting to drive, but is safe and reassuring, plus it feels well built with a solid cabin. The i30 estate makes less sense when compared to the similar Kia Ceed SW though - both are built on the same platform and share components, but the Kia has far more boot space, comes with a longer warranty and is cheaper too.
