Summary
Interior space; classy looks; warranty
Mediocre drive; four-speed automatic
The Sonata generally looks upmarket, with an interior that's a big improvement over previous Hyundais and roomy enough for five adults to travel comfortably. However, buyers attracted by the Audi-like looks should not expect the rest of the package to stand similar comparison. The Sonata offers a reasonable drive as long as the road isn't too bumpy or twisting, while its engines and transmissions, although adequate performers, lack sophistication. Its strongest draw is the exceptional warranty cover, but for similar money there are some very tempting alternatives.
