Infiniti G Coupe (09 on) - Review

Infiniti is the upmarket brand of Nissan - in a similar way that Toyota has Lexus - and the G Coupe is the most sports-focussed model in the range. It's designed to be a high-quality alternative to models such as the Audi A5 and BMW 3-Series Coupe with supreme build quality and top-class refinement. It certainly feels like a luxury car on the move with superb refinement while it's also enjoyable to drive with impressive handling. The fact that Infiniti is quite unknown means the G Coupe is a rare sight on the road and attracts attention, although the styling isn't particularly daring or distinctive. The biggest drawback is the limited engine line-up - there's currently only one petrol - a 3.7-litre V6 which is thirsty. The interior also lacks the style and sophistication of alternatives, while the rear seats are cramped. However, Infiniti dealers, although few and far between, do offer the highest levels of customer service.

Buying new

There are only a handful of dealers in the UK, so you might find you have to travel a considerable distance to get to an Infiniti showroom with the main centre located in Reading, Berkshire. As the brand is establishing itself in the UK, it doesn't have high sales targets, so you are likely to struggle to get a discount on a new model, although there are a few optional extras which could give you room to haggle. The good news is that you can expect VIP levels of customer service. When you buy a car, you are assigned your own Customer Account Manager who looks after everything to do with your vehicle. And whether you are choosing, buying or running a car, Infiniti offers a free car pick up and delivery service within a 150-mile radius of any Infiniti showroom.

Buying used

The G Coupe will be a rare sight on the second hand market, especially when compared to the likes of the BMW 3-Series. As a result, it might be difficult if you're after a particular colour or trim, but luckily all models are well equipped as standard and the top-of-the-range S is a popular choice. Those with the optional Multimedia pack are worth searching out as they include DVD navigation and a great BOSE stereo. The best place to find any Infiniti is a main dealer.

Selling

Infiniti isn't a very well known brand in the UK with many coupe buyers used to models from BMW and Audi. However, for those in the know, or for buyers after something a bit different, the G Coupe is an attractive choice, thanks to its superb build quality and impressive performance. Generous standard equipment levels are a big selling point while Infiniti dealers will be keen to snap up any low mileage examples with a full service history.
