Jaguar XK8 Convertible (96-05) - Review

Review by Parkers on
The convertible version of the XK8 is a beautiful machine with the electrically-powered hood either up or down. It's been about since 1996, but like all good Jags is timelessly elegant. It's been refreshed over the years to keep it on course dynamically and if you need to be in Saint Tropez in time for cocktails then it's a fine way to get there. With the roof down you can better hear the V8 doing its thing. An all-new car was launched in 2006.

Comfort

The rear seats are very tight - you'd only stick small children in them but then you'd risk crayons and sticky fingers on the leather. Best call it a two-seater with extra luggage space. The front seats offer a wonderful experience with a real feeling of traditionally styled luxury. Roof down, buffeting is very light with the side windows up.

Practicality

The huge boot of the coupé is compromised due to the roof storage, however luggage space is still reasonable and there's always the back seats to supplement your load carrying needs. The roof needs to have its tonneau cover manually fixed which rather defeats the object of having an electric roof and makes the Mercedes SL's folding hard top seem even more appealing.

Behind the wheel

Interior isn't manufactured - it's crafted, with wood and leather and an abundance of electronic gadgetry. It delivers a real sense of occasion be it a trip to the local supermarket or Monaco.
