Kia Ceed SW (07 on) - Review

The Kia Cee'd SW is a great value small estate that's cheap to run. It's also attractive, filled with little luxuries and comes with an unrivalled seven-year warranty as standard - one of its main selling points. But don't let the Kia badge fool you - this is no budget car, it's well built with a quality interior that belies its price tag. The Cee'd moves Kia a step further away from the bottom of the market image it previously had and it's not far behind the Ford Focus in terms of comfort and refinement. The engines are pretty good, too - the 1.6-litre diesel really stands out. It's clean, powerful and returns up to 58mpg. The Cee'd SW was tweaked in late 2009 getting a new shaped bonnet, grille and front and rear lights. The interior was also improved and a low emissions EcoDynamics model was introduced with start/stop technology.

Buying new

The Cee'd is reasonably good value, well equipped, sensibly priced and offered with an exceptionally long warranty. Don’t expect to see much of a discount from a dealer, though there may be incentives offered from time-to-time.

Buying used

Both the hatchback and SW estate went on sale during 2007. However, while the hatchback went on sale at the start of the year, the SW did not appear until September - you'll only find the estate from a 57-plate onwards. The estate sells in fewer numbers than the hatch and as a result could be harder to find on the used market. The revised models (the more aggressive grille and sharper bonnet and headlights are the biggest give-away) were introduced in October 2009 so will be on a 59-plate or later.

Selling

The seven-year warranty is a big draw for buyers looking for a car that’s going to provide peace of mind for years to come. It can give you the edge over people selling models like the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Renault Megane.
