Kia Sedona (99-06) - Review

Review by Dan Harrison on
The Kia Sedona offers a package that's hard to beat. It's roomy, flexible, well-equipped and available at a price that won't break the bank. It's a Chrysler Voyager-class vehicle for around the price of a Renault Scenic - with room for a family of seven plus space for luggage. Most buyers opt for the diesel models - the latest 2.9 CRDi is smooth and economical. The downside is so-so build quality on early models and a poor Euro NCAP crash test score.

Buying used

Know your diesels. The 2.9 was replaced in October 2001 with another 2.9 - the CRDi. The older unit is a bit of a plodder and it's worth paying more for the later unit as it transforms the car. If you're a high mileage driver it's worth paying the extra for the diesel as the petrol's running costs are significantly higher. Pre 2002 cars cost more as they need more frequent servicing.

Selling

Sedona is well regarded on the used market and buying one will set you back more than you think. That's because they do the job of a VW Sharan or Ford Galaxy for a much lower price. You'll find it easier to sell if you've had a DVD player with rear screens fitted - buyers seek out cars with family-friendly add-ons like this.
