Kia Sedona (99-06) - Review

Review by Dan Harrison on
The Kia Sedona offers a package that's hard to beat. It's roomy, flexible, well-equipped and available at a price that won't break the bank. It's a Chrysler Voyager-class vehicle for around the price of a Renault Scenic - with room for a family of seven plus space for luggage. Most buyers opt for the diesel models - the latest 2.9 CRDi is smooth and economical. The downside is so-so build quality on early models and a poor Euro NCAP crash test score.

Comfort

Huge amount of space inside means that there's plenty of head and legroom for everyone. However, interior refinement isn't up to the pace set by rivals. It's a bit on the dowdy side and road, wind and engine noise are all intrusive, which gets worse at speed. This is particularly so with the early diesel, which is loud and gruff at speed. It may be worth seeking out models with the optional DVD player and screen to make longer trips less painful.

Practicality

It's a big MPV - even by the standards of the class - and has more space than some of its more expensive rivals. The seats are removable (although this wasn't the case in earlier cars). Not enough cabin storage areas.

Behind the wheel

A high seating position gives a good view of the road ahead, though when it's fully loaded, rear visibility can be a little restricted when it's fully loaded. The dash is clearly laid-out, although some of the minor controls can be awkward to access and the stereo buttons are fiddly.
