Kia Sedona (06 on) - Review

Review by Simon Harris on
Last Updated: 05 January 2010
The Kia Sedona may not be the best looking or most stylish people carrier around, but it's great value with a spacious interior, rear sliding doors and a good level of standard equipment on all models. The considerable size means there's plenty of room for passengers in the back and seven seats come as standard (the rear ones can be removed completely). However it's not daunting to drive and a tight turning circle means tricky manoeuvres are pretty easy. Unsurprisingly, it's the strong diesel engine which is the most popular choice. Along with a smooth ride, even on rough roads, it means the Sedona is a comfortable and relaxed long distance family car. It was made even better in January 2010 when a seven-year warranty replaced the previous three year scheme.

Buying new

The Sedona is a good value people carrier, especially when you consider it carries seven people and comes very well equipped too. It's worth asking for some sort of discount, especially if you're buying one of the more expensive higher-specification models, but don't expect a huge amount off. Kia dealers usually have offers running so it's worth keeping an eye out for these and taking full advantage. The seven-year warranty as standard is a great scheme and unmatched by any other brand.

Buying used

The most popular model is the 2.9-litre CRDi LS with the manual gearbox - little surprise as it offers a great blend of economy, equipment and decent performance. The petrol version is less common and not worth as much either - it's only available in base GS trim.

Selling

A diesel GS or LS trim should be the best prospect for a quick sale, although any diesel should be relatively easy to sell. The petrol model will be harder work. If people aren't familiar with the model, use the seven removable seats and generous equipment levels as selling points.
