Kia Sorento (03-09) - Review Review by Dan Harrison on 26 October 2006 Last Updated: 05 January 2010 Kia's large 4x4 is big on looks, big on value and big on ability. It's a great all-round package and well worth considering, even compared to more established and upmarket models. Along with a spacious cabin, the Sorento comes generously equipped, so it's great value for money while the diesel engine provides strong performance and plenty of pulling power - making it ideal for towing. And even if you'll never need it, it's good to know that this is also one 4x4 that can get you out of trouble if you do get stuck. The model was revised in 2006 with new bumpers and lights while the engines were tweaked to deliver extra power and the interior given a more contemporary look. It was made even better value in January 2010 when the three year warranty was replaced by a seven-year programme. 3 out of 5 Other Kia reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 3 out of 5 Comfort Despite a firm ride, the Sorento is good on smooth motorways and makes a decent long distance cruiser. The cabin is roomy and five passengers can travel in good comfort thanks to well padded (if not especially supportive) seats. Engine noise can be an issue though, especially with the early diesel unit, but all models get air conditioning and electric as standard. Facelifted XT and Titan models from 2006 get better rear legroom thanks to revised front seats. View full gallery 4 out of 5 Practicality As you'd expect of a 4x4, the Sorento is usefully versatile. All cars come with a 60/40 split rear seat with lift-up cushions and backrests that fold down to leave completely flat, interrupted load area that includes a luggage net and fixings. The boot itself is impressively large with 849 litres of space - more than a BMW X5. There is also further storage under the boot floor and in the rear quarter panels. Usefully the rear window in the tailgate opens, allowing you to access the boot without having to open the whole tailgate - especially helpful in multi-storey car parks. The interior is quite dull too with lots of grey plastics and although it's well built, it doesn't feel particularly upmarket. The layout is easy to get on with though and all the controls and clearly marked. Facelifted models from 2006 got an improved interior with a new centre console, a neater control layout and higher quality materials.
