Lamborghini Gallardo (03 on) - Review

Last Updated: 25 February 2009
The Gallardo was the first Lamborghini to be fully developed under Audi’s ownership and it shows in the superb build quality. The cockpit is wonderfully finished and despite the obvious Audi switches, retains that important Italian flair. Four-wheel drive is standard on every version, including the very pretty Spider open-top, to make the V10-powered Gallardo supremely good to drive. With the coupe, the main choice is between standard six-speed manual gearbox and the E-Gear ’box that does without a clutch pedal but add shift paddles behind the steering wheel. In June 2008 the LP560-4 model arrived with even more power and a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds.

Buying new

You'll get a premium experience from Lamborghini dealers - and so you should when spending almost £150,000. The Coupe is now called the (rather long-winded) LP560-4, but it's basically a facelifted version with more power and exterior styling changes. There is, of course, plenty of scope for personalising your car, including a lengthy and expensive options list. buying new, and it might be worthwhile to choose one of two fitted luggage sets. Plenty of scope for individualising your car.

Buying used

The Gallardo has been Lamborghini's most successful model ever, so it should be much easier to track one down used than it would be with previous models like the Diablo. You're unlikely to get a 'bargain' but it will still be a considerably cheaper way of getting into Lamborghini ownership. Of course a full Lamborghini service history is essential and avoid any that have been used for track days. A cheaper way into a Lamborghini than buying new, although prices are still quite high.

Selling

While you won't attract many people who are just 'browsing' there will still be strong demand for the Gallardo from driving enthusiasts. As you'd expect, buyers will want a full Lamborghini service history while the E Gear transmission is very popular.
