Lamborghini Gallardo (03 on) - Review

The Gallardo was the first Lamborghini to be fully developed under Audi’s ownership and it shows in the superb build quality. The cockpit is wonderfully finished and despite the obvious Audi switches, retains that important Italian flair. Four-wheel drive is standard on every version, including the very pretty Spider open-top, to make the V10-powered Gallardo supremely good to drive. With the coupe, the main choice is between standard six-speed manual gearbox and the E-Gear ’box that does without a clutch pedal but add shift paddles behind the steering wheel. In June 2008 the LP560-4 model arrived with even more power and a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds.

Safety

Lamborghini supplies twin front and side airbags as standard with all Gallardo models, and there’s also ESP traction control fitted that has a variety of settings - allowing the driver more say in how the car behaves at its limits. New customers have the option of upgrading the excellent standard brakes to carbon ceramic items, which improve stopping power and completely remove any risk of brake fade if you intend to take the Gallardo on track days.

Reliability

This is where Audi’s ownership of Lamborghini has been most obviously felt. The Gallardo is very well put together and owners report nothing out of the ordinary, even when racking up mileages not normally associated with supercars. Lamborghini has also invested in a better dealer network in the UK, so having routine work carried out is much less hassle for owners.
