The fourth-generation Lexus GS is available in two versions: the GS 250 and the flagship GS 450h. Up against the BMW 5 Series, Audi’s A6 and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Lexus has certainly got its work cut out to win over buyers. Previous models have not really cut a dash and they certainly haven’t captured the hearts of the British public yet, but Lexus has worked hard to give it proper presence. As such the exterior has been totally redesigned with the front end getting new upper and lower grilles. This new design is the new face of the Lexus family and it’s a distinctive look. The headlights are set slightly higher than the grille while the L-shaped LED daytime running lights give the car an attractive lighting pattern on the front of the car. The door mirrors house LED turn indicators and downlights and the rear of the car features LED cluster lamps with fins that help to improve the aerodynamic efficiency and driving stability. To try to woo potential buyers Lexus has kitted the car with ground-breaking technology including energy saving aircon that uses sensors to determine if the front passenger seat is occupied or not. If it is not then the system closes all the vents serving that seat and thus saves energy. There’s also a massive touchscreen for in-car multimedia. This fourth generation has more interior space for passengers: legroom up front has improved and there is an extra 30mm of headroom for the driver and front seat passenger. The rear passengers will also be happy too. Knee room in the rear is up by 20mm and there is an increase of 25mm in headroom. Both Lexus models get additional boot space. It has an extra 30% when compared to the previous generation while the GS 450h gets an extra 55% of loadroom in the boot. The Lexus GS is priced competively when compared to rivals and comes with stacks of standard kit. Can it outgun the other premium luxury brands in the sector? Read on for the full Lexus GS review.
