Lexus IS Saloon (05 on) - Review Review by Ben Wall on 24 November 2005 Last Updated: 12 July 2010 The IS is the smallest Lexus in the range and is intended as an alternative to models such as the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4. It manages to be as upmarket and high quality as more expensive Lexus cars with a sophisticated interior plus a plenty of high-tech kit. It's also very well equipped and as you'd expect of a car from Toyota (which owns Lexus) is supremely reliable. The downsides are cramped rear seats and a rather lacklustre driving experience. The engine range is also limited with just one petrol and one diesel. However, on the plus side, you can count on Lexus dealers to provide exceptional customer service. In late 2008 the range was slightly revised with new trim levels and lower emissions in the IS220d. 3.5 out of 5 Other Lexus reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 2.5 out of 5 Buying new Lexus dealers rarely have offers or incentives on new cars, but the odd finance offer or free upgrade deal does appear. Prices start at around £23,000 which is more than an entry-level 3-Series or Audi A4. However you do get a diesel engine plus plenty of standard equipment. Lexus dealers offer superb customer service too and regularly top satisfaction surveys both here and in the US. 4 out of 5 Buying used The diesel model is the most popular but if you don't intend to cover many miles a petrol could be a better choice. There's an baffling array of models and trims so it's worth checking the facts and figures section to see what each trim comes with. Lexus also lists cars with sat nav or adaptive cruise control as separate models (to add to the confusion). Cars with ACC/PCS listed after the trim level come with adaptive cruise control (ACC) and a pre-crash safety system (the PCS part). Hold values very well. No bargains available, and most are retained by the dealer network. But this rarity can work in your favour. The generous standard kit, superb build quality and legendary Lexus reliability are also other good selling points.
