The diminutive Elise is a sensational back-to-basics road racer, providing all-round thrills and really looking the part. A classic in its own time, the magnificently sculpted bonnet and side panels look fantastic - as well as having their aero-dynamic purposes - and due to the Elise’s timeless styling and raw, exhilarating performance there are few rivals to the throne.

Running costs

The Rover K-series engine is easy to maintain, but Lotus parts are pricey and often quite difficult to fit yourself. Using a specialist rather than a main dealer should also save you money. Although insurance is steep, the overall cost of ownership is not expensive on a cost per smile basis, while the steady demand should keep used prices high.
