The diminutive Elise is a sensational back-to-basics road racer, providing all-round thrills and really looking the part. A classic in its own time, the magnificently sculpted bonnet and side panels look fantastic - as well as having their aero-dynamic purposes - and due to the Elise’s timeless styling and raw, exhilarating performance there are few rivals to the throne.

Safety

The light but rigid body structure makes the Elise the strongest sportscar of its time and measures up to modern crash standards, but there are no airbags or ABS; which may be of concern. The Elise comes with an immobiliser, but as it is difficult to stop someone from getting in, most will have additional after-market systems fitted, too. If yours does not, it may be advisable to fit one as it will add appeal to potential buyers and give your insurers greater peace of mind.

Reliability

The engine rarely causes too many problems - though the trim and window mechanisms are flimsy and get damaged easily – so if regular maintenance is kept up, the Elise should start every time. Elsewhere, there have been reported issues with footwell floor corrosion, steering rack wear, and stone chips, as well as a punctured radiator and gearbox faults.
