Maserati Coupé (01-06) - Review Review by Simon Harris on 25 April 2008 Although outward appearances suggest the Coupé is merely a mildly facelifted version of the older 3200GT, it is quite different beneath the skin. That car, produced between 1998 and 2001 and distinguished by its pretty boomerang rear lights, was powered by a twin turbo V8 and had its gearbox mounted at the front with the engine. The car that followed, called simply Maserati Coupé, used a naturally aspirated V8 built by Ferrari and had its gearbox mounted over the rear wheels for better handling. A convertible Spyder version which came without the solid-roofed cars' useful rear seats was also available which Maserati replaced with a more performance-biased Gran Sport Spyder in 2005. Two years later Maserati phased out both coupé and roadster, replacing them with the larger, more refined Granturismo. Other cars to consider are the luxury biased Jaguar XK and more perfromance oriented Porsche 911. 3.5 out of 5 Other Maserati reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 3.5 out of 5 Equipment Electrically adjustable leather seats and a 5.8inch colour screen from where you can command the standard climate control and stereo were part of the Coupé package. But features often considered crucial in this segment such as satellite navigation, cruise control, heated seats, the Skyhook dampers and a CD changer were among the options and so weren’t fitted to all cars. Some features, like Skyhook became standard fit on later cars. Maserati’s personalisation programme allowed owners to specify the colour of not just the exterior paint but choose between 10 interior leathers, 13 colours of stitching on that leather and even the hue of the brake callipers.
