Mazda MX-5 (05 on) - Review Review by David Ross on 21 May 2008 Last Updated: 23 June 2011 The third-generation of the MX-5 is the most sophisticated yet. The classic charm of the original has been bought up to date and it's now a much easier convertible to live with everyday thanks to a comfortable ride, modern and functional interior and less wind noise in the cabin. The availability of a folding hardtop model - badged RC, makes it an even more sensible buy and the GRP type lightweight roof retracts in just 12 seconds, plus it comes with the otherwise optional air conditioning. It's lost none of the fun factor either and is still hugely enjoyable on open roads with great body control and pin-sharp steering. In April 2009 it was facelifted with slight styling tweaks, the introduction of a paddle shift automatic and improved fuel economy. 4 out of 5 Other Mazda reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery Also Consider 4 out of 5 MINI Convertible (09 on) Stylish image, huge fun to drive, refined and quiet with hood up, speedy roof Restricted rear visibility, not as attractive as the standard hatch, tiny rear seats Read full review 3.5 out of 5 Peugeot 207 CC (07 on) Stylish interior, good to drive, available with a refined diesel engine, smooth ride, air con standard Pointless rear seats, hard to get luggage out of the boot when roof is down, slack manual gearbox Read full review 3.5 out of 5 Smart Roadster (03-07) Fun image, handling, cheeky styling, frugal Not that quick Read full review Find other convertible cars Car Valuations Find used car prices with Parkers accurate car valuations.
