Like the majority of the AMG models, there's nothing subtle about the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. The performance wing of Mercedes-Benz has a reputation for building bullish and brutal cars, and they have given the C-Class the AMG treatment. There is a choice of C63 AMGs. The Coupe was first for the makeover, and then the saloon and estate quickly followed. It's a menacing sight, it has a rippled aluminum bonnet hiding the 6.3-litre V8 engine, the front bumper has a large air duct to keep the power plant cool and the Mercedes star is featured big and proud on the front grille. The sleek lines give the Coupe a svelte appearance while the enhanced wheel-arches and the large wheels magnify the car's sporting pretensions. The saloon and the estate look equally muscular with a hunkered down look. Even from the rear, they all look mean. All have four oval exhausts, special AMG wheels there’s a lip spoiler on the boot of the Coupe and Saloon, and just in case you were wondering what you are looking at, Mercedes has plastered C63 AMG badges on the side and rear of the car.

Performance

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is big on numbers. Firstly the engine is a 6.3-litre V8 (that’s nearly four-times the size of a family car’s engine), packs 457bhp (or 487bhp if you opt for the AMG Performance Pack Plus) and a staggering 600Nm of pulling power. In terms of go, it means the 0-62mph dash is dispensed in just 4.3 seconds for the coupe, 4.4 for the saloon and 4.5 for the estate. Opt for the nattily-named AMG Performance Pack Plus and the 0-62 times come down further and you can opt to have the top speed limiter to cut in at 175mph rather than 155mph. If that is not enough then the AMG Black Series (only available as a Coupe) packs 509bhp, hits 186mph and rockets from 0-60mph in just 4.1 seconds. So any C63 AMG is seriously powerful and seriously quick.

Practicality

Depending on which bodystyle you choose, practically varies from acceptable to pretty good. The Coupe can sit four adults though rear space is cramped but does have a good sized boot at 450 litres. The Saloon is more practical with more space in the rear for adults and a boot size of 475 litres. For those looking for something with even more practicality then the estate version is best. Boot space is good with 485 litres that increases to 1500 litres with the rear seats folded flat. There are neat touches such as the push release hooks to hang your shopping bags from, elasticated net to hold small items and prevent them from rolling around the boot, and retractable boot cover and retractable cargo net. There is room for four adults and the front passengers get plenty of shoulder, arm and leg room.
