The mad scientists in Merc's AMG division have added an extra dimension to the sophisticated CLK Coupe and Cabriolet experience. As with other AMG models they've followed a familiar recipe, adding hugely powerful engines and subtly more aggressive looks. It's not the sort of car to take onto a racetrack, but the appeal of the regular CLK is certainly not spoiled by the added ability to accelerate very quickly. The CLK55 was replaced in 2006 by the significantly more powerful CLK63. The limited-edition Black series is suitable to take onto a racetrack - it's essentially a pace car - a hardcore version with adjustable suspension, lower body weight, and power, speed, costs and emissions turned up to 11.
