MINI Convertible (09 on) - Review Review by David Ross on 19 March 2009 Last Updated: 12 June 2009 With its retro-inspired styling and funky image, the MINI Convertible has proved a real hit. The second generation model follows in the same footsteps but with some key improvements. It may look very similar, but in fact it is totally new with a stiffer body for better refinement with the roof down. MINI has also changed the rollover hoops which used to block rear visibility, making the model much more driver-friendly, especially when parking. As with any MINI it is great fun to drive while the engines offer a strong combination of performance and economy. Practicality isn't a strong point and the rear seats are pretty much useless, but few small convertibles can match the sheer desirability and style of the MINI. 4 out of 5 Other MINI reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 3 out of 5 Equipment MINI has never been overly generous when it comes to standard equipment. In fact, considering the list prices, standard kit levels are pretty meagre. The second generation Convertible is slightly better. All models get air conditioning, stability control (DSC), an alarm, power steering, electric windows and roof, Isofix child seat mounting points, four airbags, parking sensors, 15-inch alloy wheels, CD stereo with an aux-in point, electric mirrors, heated rear window, height and reach adjustable steering column, remote central locking and split rear seats. The Cooper S adds run-flat tyres, Sport button, 16-inch alloys, honeycomb grille, twin exhaust pipe, leather steering wheel, sports seats and a chequered interior trim. The fabric roof comes in black as standard but Denim Blue and Hot Chocolate (brown) are available (for an extra £100). Most buyers choose one of the two extras packs - Pepper or Chili. The Pepper pack (only available on Cooper) adds items such as a leather steering wheel, Bluetooth, front fog lights and velour floor mats. The more expensive Chili pack gives you a sports steering wheel, climate control, half leather upholstery and sports seats.
