Mitsubishi Grandis (04-10) - Review

The Grandis is great for long distance trips where its refined cabin and quiet engine make it well suited to motorway cruising. The seats are large and supportive and there's plenty of room for passengers in the first two rows. However, the third row is only suitable for children, as legroom is tight. A neat feature is that the two rear seats can be tipped up so people can sit in the tailgate (see picture gallery), which is ideal for picnics. The rear of the cabin has a separately controlled ventilation system.

With all seven seats in place, there's little room for luggage. In five-seat configuration the Grandis has van-like carrying capacity, with a wide tailgate opening and high roof. Folding the seats is easy, as the rear two slide into the floor and the middle row fold upright. Should you get stranded, the rear seats even fold into a double bed. There' are also plenty of cubby bins and cup holders along with aircraft-style flip-up tables in the rear.

The driver's seat is well shaped, gives good support and is adjustable in many ways - there's even a flip-down armrest. This makes the Grandis great for long journeys while all the dials and switches are centrally positioned and intuitive to use. The gearlever is mounted on the dashboard too, making it easy to use. The high driving position gives a good view of the road, though rearward visibility can be restricted with five passengers in the back.
