Summary****-

  • An ultimate rally weapon
  • Specially developed Yokohama tyres are in very short supply

Mitsubishi actually carried out fewer changes in progressing to the Evo IX than when evolving from Evo VIII to Evo VIII MR, however this will be the final development of thieve IX. The visible changes consist of subtle alterations with new front intercooler ducts, a rear under-bumper diffuser, new lights front and rear and a change of wheel design. 360 versions also get a toothed, carbon fibre, vortex generator on the roof. Under-the-skin development include hollowing the carbon fibre rear spoiler for less weight and lower centre of gravity and further fettling of the engine and chassis. For what it is worth, Mitsubishi claims the Evo IX can lap the 20km Nurburgring a couple of seconds faster than the previous model. The ultimate version in name and performance is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR FQ-360 by HKS, signifying that it uses lots of tuning components from Japanese tuners HKS.
