Morgan Aero 8 (00-10) - Review

For sheer character and charm, few cars can match the Morgan Aero 8. It may be hand built and with a traditional look, but the Morgan is a thoroughly modern sports car that uses an aluminium chassis while power comes from a BMW V8 engine. This gives it a 0-62mph time of less than five seconds and it feels even faster from behind the wheel. The original model had an unfortunate cross-eyed appearance, but a revised model, introduced in 2006, was a huge improvement. Designed and built in Britain it has a uniqueness few similarly priced cars can match and there are more dealers around than you'd think. However, that doesn't stop it being expensive to buy and run.

Safety

The bonded aluminium chassis is very strong in collision, but there are no airbags, traction control, nor even a rollover bar on early models. Twin front airbags and stability control were made standard when the model was revised in 2006. There is also an alarm and immobiliser.

Reliability

The Morgan is hand built at the firms factory in Malvern to very high standards. The engine and gearbox are both BMW units so there should be no issues with them. There can be occasional niggles but Morgan will rectify them very quickly.
