Nissan 370Z Coupe (09 on) - Review

Review by David Ross on

Nissan is keeping to its tradition of building sharp handling and enjoyable to drive sports car with the 370Z. It takes over from the 350Z but despite being more refined and comfortable inside, is every bit as involving and characterful as its predecessor. With a rumbling V6 engine, heavy manual gearchange and low-slung driving position it's very much in the mould of an old-fashioned two-seater performance coupe. But it's also incredibly sophisticated with a top quality cabin and advanced safety systems. There's even a Synchro Rev Control system that keeps the engine revs at their optimum between gear shifts, adding to the sports feel. In terms of performance it competes with top end models like the Porsche Cayman, but it represents far better value for money and comes very well equipped too.

Equipment

Not only is the 370Z good value in terms of performance, it also comes generously equipped as standard. There are three trim levels - the standard car, GT Pack and GT Ultimate. The base car gets electrically adjustable seats, climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic xenon headlights, an alarm, curtain airbags, CD stereo with an auxiliary input, Bluetooth, leather multifunction steering wheel, rain sensitive wipers and an engine start/stop button. The GT Pack gets 19-inch wheels, heated seats trimmed in black suede and leather, a six-CD Bose audio system, cruise control and Synchro Rev Control (on manual cars only). The top of the range GT Ultimate adds Persimmon suede leather along with a DVD sat nav system with full European mapping. The seven-speed automatic is a £1,400 extra while the only other option is metallic paint which also gets Nissan's special Scratch Shield paint that automatically repairs light scratches and blemishes. The limited Black Edition comes in either black or quartz metallic paint, a unique red leather and suede interior, red interior stitching, sat nav, dark grey 19-inch alloys, red brake calipers.
