Nissan Almera Hatchback (00-06) - Review

Review by Parkers on
Underneath the conservative-looking body of the second-generation Almera is a well-built package that's good to drive with precise handling, good fuel economy and a comfortable interior. It's competitively priced and well equipped, so those who don’t mind the anonymous looks can pick up a bargain.

Comfort

Taller passengers will moan about rear legroom and rough ride over bumps when fully laden. Seats are comfy front and rear and up to trips over 100 miles. Engine noise is audible at all speeds, some road rumble.

Practicality

Forget bootspace, rear legroom and cubby holes - none of them are particularly impressive. It's the curry hooks that stand out - a simple hook in the passenger footwell that means an end to spilt takeaways. Simple, but effective.

Behind the wheel

The range was updated in October 2002 and Almera got a the N-Form dash similar to the Primera's (apart from the entry-level S grade). It works in the larger Nissan, but is a bit confusing on Almera and looks out of place. Driver's seat is comfortable and adjustable, steering wheel adjusts for height. Dash looks old fashioned and there is too much ugly black plastic.
