Nissan Almera Hatchback (00-06) - Review

Review by Parkers on
Underneath the conservative-looking body of the second-generation Almera is a well-built package that's good to drive with precise handling, good fuel economy and a comfortable interior. It's competitively priced and well equipped, so those who don’t mind the anonymous looks can pick up a bargain.

Running costs

Petrol engines are economical, diesels offer fuel consumption that's in-line with the class. Insurance is cheap, servicing is reasonable, but some spares can be pricey. Beware of depreciation. It's steep now and will accelerate once Almera's replacement comes onto the market.

Emissions summary

Almera is an environmentally friendly choice for green buyers. With an average of 168 g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are quite low for a small family hatchback. However, it's worth noting that the line up has a high number of diesel models, bringing the average down and giving buyers more choices of low-emission versions. Diesels typically produce less CO2 than petrol engines with similar power outputs. Eco-conscious buyers should consider the 2.2-litre diesel, which is one of the greenest models in the range. The range is also fairly economical, averaging 42 mpg.
