Nissan Qashqai (07 on) - Review Review by Simon Harris on 22 January 2007 Last Updated: 23 February 2011 The Qashqai is described by Nissan as a crossover - in other words it's a cross between a normal hatchback and an off roader. This may sound like an odd notion but the result is a real success and the modern, chunky styling looks great. It's actually an indirect replacement for the Almera and an alternative to cars like the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and Honda Civic. If you're after something different from the norm the Qashqai (pronounced Cash-kai) fits the bill perfectly. All versions are well equipped, comfortable and good to drive. Four-wheel drive versions are available but the majority of models in the UK are standard front-wheel drive. The Qashqai is also a very British car - it was designed and developed in the UK and is built at Nissan's plant in Sunderland. In 2010 it received a refresh with a new front end, suspension tweaks, extra sound insulation and weight reduction. A 'Pure Drive' model that delivers less emissions and improved fuel economy was also introduced. 4 out of 5 Other Nissan reviews Summary Facts & Figures Equipment Driving & Performance Comfort Costs Safety & Reliability Buying & Selling Also Consider Company Car Info Owners' Reviews Gallery 4 out of 5 Running costs The Qashqai is well equipped for the money when compared with alternatives such as the Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Astra - although starting prices are higher than many standard hatches. It will probably lose close to two-thirds of its value when new over three years, which is better than many mainstream hatchbacks plus the engines have competitive fuel consumption. The automatic transmission fitted to the 2.0-litre petrol model actually delivers lower fuel consumption than the manual. * based on most recent data Estimated fuel cost for 10,000 miles per year Unleaded £1,306 - £1,860 * Diesel £1,034 - £1,781 * The estimated fuel cost figure is a guide to how much this model will cost to fuel each year, so you can compare between cars. It's calculated by using the model's average mpg (calculated from both town centre and motorway driving) and the average fuel price. It's based on the following cost-per-litre: petrol 135p and diesel 141p. Prices are updated daily. Summary Running Costs Servicing period 12,500 miles. Warranty Three years/60,000 miles. With an average of 185g/km CO2 across the range its emissions are pretty good, especially considering there are several four-wheel drive models in the range which emit more CO2. The best model for the eco-conscious is the 1.5dCi which emits 139g/km of CO2 and will average 54mpg. If you go for the Pure Drive Qashqai CO2 emissions drop to 129g/km.
