Nissan X-Trail (01-07) - Review

X-Trail is better in most areas than most of its rivals. It goes up against the Honda's CR-V and Land Rover's Freelander in the soft-roader category. It cuts the mustard against both of them on the road and has a good range of engines and trim levels. Standard equipment could be better for the price (but there again, so could that of its rivals).

Comfort

The excellent seats offer plenty of back support, plus there’s loads of head and legroom throughout for all the family. It easily takes four without complaint and five can travel in some comfort. The noisy diesels can spoil the ride enjoyment a little at times, but otherwise X-Trail is well insulated against wind and road noise.

Practicality

X-Trail has a quirky, but highly practical interior. A neat touch is a can-cooler that's integrated into the dash, but it's not available on all models. Too many cubby bins to mention, they're on the dash, in the doors, in the back... everywhere. Generous amount of rear luggage space.

Behind the wheel

A great driving position with good all-round visibility and a commanding view of the road. It's easy to get comfortable and the steering wheel is adjustable. Attractive dash is clad in a rubber-effect plastic that's easy to clean. Big chunky dials with precise movement and the dials are centrally-mounted, which makes them easy to see.
