Other BMW 5-Series (2003 - 2010) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

535d specifically - knows what he's talking about.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Everyone loves it, many covet it.

Would you buy this car again and why?

The 35d engine is superb, no other diesel offers the same power for the same MPG. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again, but BMW are releasing a tri-turbo version 50d - might like to give that monster a go!

What are you likely to buy next?

If I can afford one the 550d when it is launched, will have to wait for them to filter onto the second hand market though...

  • Buying experience

    5 out of 5 5.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £24,795

When did you buy the car?

    September 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

High spec car with low mileage for the price, not easy to negotiate them down.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    What was the dealer like?

Actually very good - which I wasn't expecting!

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Deceptively fast, and handles very well for a big car. I love it's low down useable power, which makes it an overtaking monster!

    What's it like to park?

The front and rear sensors with on screen display make it easy. It is quite a wide car though, so tight multi-storey spaces can be a real squeeze getting in and out of the car.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Got an intermittent fault with the active cruise control, been in to be fixed once before under warranty but still not reliably working. Frustrating.

What's most practical about your car?

Big boot, front and rear parking sensors. Love the 'heads up display' an absolute revelation! Auto main beams are also ace.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Heads-up display, without a doubt the most useful gadget. Shame BMW haven't included a rev counter on it though. (the night vision function is useless though).
