    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Picked it up for £760 but depreciated over the 7 months I've owned it. Can't asked for much more than £500 now, perhaps I paid too much in the first place.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Great fuel consumption if driven sensibly, a fantastic 57mpg on long motorway journeys -not bad for a dated turbo diesel.

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Handles and corners well, smooth ride from hyperneumatic suspension. Xantias are great long range cruisers, it's a shame they've been discontinued as they made great fleet cars.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good and above average performance given the age and the spec of the car. Not the quickest acceleration from traffic lights, but mid-range and top speeds are quite impressive. Excellent performer on the motorway, outclasses many newer Turbo Diesel models.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    3 out of 5 3.0

Good but not great, very complicated suspension system. Mechanics who understand Citroen parts are few and far between. Try to find a specialist, the main dealer network is very expensive when things go wrong (which they will.)

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

Reasonably smart appearance, still holding age well.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Top-notch. Can't fault the smooth ride and complicated -yet effective suspension system. Good leg room in back for passengers, and very comfortable basic seats that come with the SX trim.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Nothing special, just standard locks and alarms. Driver's side lock was replaced by previous owner, and so the central locking only works from the passenger side. Apart from that, very standard security measures.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Expensive servicing and parts. Get a Citroen with full history to avoid costly future problems.

  • Problems and Ownership

Suspension problems tricky to repair, make sure car has not been abused as the spheres are the first thing to go wrong with any Xantia.
