What does this car say about you?

    Parent.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

    Comfortable.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Not if it was given to me, I'd be frightened of what might go wrong and how much it could cost.

What are you likely to buy next?

No need for a car at the moment but something older, small and low value as my needs have changed. Maybe a Toyota Starlet or older Vauxhall Corsa.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    £5,000

When did you buy the car?

    February 2010

Did you get a good deal and why?

    Paid about the going rate.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Bought as a family car with plenty of space and reasonably economic diesel engine.

    What was the dealer like?

Tried to haggle (all sorts of nonsense) over the trade-in value of my car when I went to collect the C-MAX. Gave in when I asked for my deposit back but wish I had walked away from the deal as threatened.

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

    Feels like a van.

    What's it like to park?

Challenging. Can't see the back or front of the car, rear visibility to back quarters is not great.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Yes, big time. Water pump seized on motorway taking timing belt with it. Repairs cost about 1500 pounds. Has also needed a new alternator. Big appetite for front tyres despite relaxed driving style (common problem according to owners forum). Also suspicions over tracking despite having this done.

What's most practical about your car?

Easy to get in and out of. Cavernous boot.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Hazard warning lights (see "has anything gone wrong").
