Ford Sierra Hatchback
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Bought for £450. This is a lot of car for no money.

    Costs

    2 out of 5 2.0

Have spent about £900 on mechanical repairs, but the bodywork shows no sign of imminent decay, so I'm happy to spend money on mechanical maintenance.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

This car makes long distance driving a breeze. I often drive from London to Cornwall and never feel tired from the drive.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not as quick as you'd think for a 1.8, but this car will sit on the motorway at 70mph until the end of time and never complain.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

There is just no stopping this car. It will start and run with no problems in hot summer or icy winter. Top of engine is noisy on cold mornings though.

    Image

    2 out of 5 2.0

My fellow London drivers cut me to pieces, presumably because they think I'm an unlicensed cab driver. Dull image seems to deter thieves - hopefully.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Big comfy front seats for long distance drives. Heater fantastic in the winter. Cavernous boot easily swallows luggage and shopping.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Factory fitted alarm goes haywire if water gets anywhere near it, but is still functional - for what its worth.

    Service

    2 out of 5 2.0

Never had any work done by Ford. They are too expensive. They want £45 just for an oil and filter change!

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Absolutely reliable. Burns oil though, but with 129K on the clock, it is to be expected. I suspect a cylinder head rebuild may be needed to resolve this.

    Other

Passenger door hinge bushes worn, making door movement stiff. This annoys my girlfriend no end!

    Ownership

Did you buy the car new?

    Used

Would you buy the same model again?

    No

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?

    Yes
