• Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

    I'm shrewd and sensible.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

It's pretty much invisible to them, but my parents are reassured by it.

Would you buy this car again and why?

It's very clever, but No, only because I've found myself doing mostly motorway miles.

What are you likely to buy next?

A quiet mile-muncher - maybe a Vauxhall Omega or Vectra, or even a Peugeot 406 estate.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £7,000

When did you buy the car?

    February 2013

Did you get a good deal and why?

I think I paid top-end, really, despite very low mileage and lovely condition. I wanted a Honda warranty, and this car had been supplied and serviced by the same dealer from new.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I needed a truly reliable car urgently, one that was affordable to run.

    What was the dealer like?

Charming and efficient, apart from the pushy finance guy. (I organised my own finance in the end, Honda's was a rip-off.).

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

I've done 20,000 miles in 7 months and the motorway noise is killing me, especially the road noise. The EX has wide 16" alloys which I think may not help - I'm going to try some 15" steel wheels from a breaker's yard. Wind and engine noise are also very wearing on the motorway. To be honest I feel little difference between its 100hp and the 82hp of its predecessor, at least not at lower speeds. Finally (sorry), the driver's seat is terrible - I use a Back Friend - and because I'm tall, the top of the steering wheel obscures the top of the instruments.

    What's it like to park?

A doddle. It's perfect in town and country, just not suited to poor road surfaces or motorway driving.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

No. Of course not. However the 'fuel remaining' gauge tells nothing but lies - your last 50 miles in the tank will disappear in 25, which is very irritating.

What's most practical about your car?

The amazing load area and rear seat configurations. Why aren't all cars this clever? It's brilliantly versatile and capacious.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Cruise control, panoramic glass roof, electric heated/folding mirrors.
