  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

At this stage of its life, it says I took what's available!

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

As a 27-year-old with a big estate car, most people think I'm planning a family, which I'm not. Others are interested to know how much beer I'll bring back from Germany in it this summer.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No, it's just too big and I'd prefer something sportier. Big Peugeots are not as bad as their reputation suggests though, provided you throw in a large diesel engine.

What are you likely to buy next?

Peugeot 208 GTI if I can get a deal.

  • Buying experience

    5 out of 5 5.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £0

When did you buy the car?

    April 2015

Did you get a good deal and why?

Yes, it was for free. Though at 106,000 miles and 10 years old it's only worth around a grand anyway.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I was lucky enough to get this for free off my dad when my old Focus died and he was in the process of upgrading his own car.

    What was the dealer like?

    My dad.

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

The turbo is fun and noticeable, and the torque is great when loaded up or on a hill, but this car does not like being pushed, particularly around corners or on bumpy roads, and will reward relaxed driving. The suspension is very soft.

    What's it like to park?

Easier than a Ford Focus thanks to generous rear visibility and parking sensors, and despite the length and mediocre turning circle.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Within a month the traction control, cruise control, and ABS have all started to fail. Over the previous 10 years the clutch, air con, stereo, and various bits of stereo have all failed and been repaired though.

What's most practical about your car?

It's huge and there's loads of space inside, despite it being relatively narrow on the outside. The tail window opens separately too which makes loading/unloading of small bags very easy and quick.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Cruise control: it feels at home when not being pushed.
