Other Vauxhall Vectra (2002 - 2005) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

It says I'm being practical and following the masses, but it also says I'm sensible.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They like the look and are impressed with the ride and refinement.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes I would, I have always been an adiment Alfa Romeo, Fiat fan and I've very seldom strayed to something more mainstream. I have been very impressed with the Vectra as an overall package. I had a Mondeo in the past and I got rid of it after 2 months because I hated it. The Vectra was a wild card for me but worked out very well.

What are you likely to buy next?

Either the 3.0v6 cdti or VXR Vectra hatchback or an Alfa 159 estate.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £1,800

When did you buy the car?

    May 2012

Did you get a good deal and why?

It was second hand with 86k on the clock so I got a good deal with some money knocked off the price. The garage also ironed out a few minor things which were wrong with it.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I needed a car with a big boot, plenty of space which looked good and had good performance.

    What was the dealer like?

    Very helpful and honest.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Handles the road very well in SRI spec, not quite as sharp as my old Alfa 156, but not far off. Steering is very light in comparison and you don't get as much feedback as an Alfa. Very smooth quiet and refined all round, engine almost sounds V6 like. Very good performance in general, doesn't feel much slower than my old 2.0 Alfa. Lacks a bit of torque in 5th gear on the motorway. Exceleration is pretty good but the traction control can be a bit annoying at times. It's worth doing a simple airbox mod with a Pipercross/K&N replacement element, it makes a big difference and gets rid of any flat spots.

    What's it like to park?

Quite big and you can't see the end of the boot, but the steering is very light, so overall is very easy to park.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

    No

What's most practical about your car?

Huge boot, wide door space for putting children in and out of seats, although the roof slopes so you sometimes have to watch their heads when putting them in.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

    Cruise control, quick defrost windscreen.
