  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

£7k from dealer with 40k on clock 12 months ago - not bad considering would have to pay up to £2k more for Golf equivalent

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not overjoyed with average of 35mpg, but have driven far worse economical cars that do not offer same enjoyment

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Great for long journeys and really pulls well in fifth

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Shifts when you want/ need it to and same performance as GTi albeit the 2 litre as opposed to the 1.8 t Golf

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    3 out of 5 3.0

Good except engine management light - constantly switching on initially even after full diagnostic checks - can be very expensive to sort - usually minor faults, but worth checking light has not been turned off permanently prior to purchase!

    Image

    5 out of 5 5.0

Can't fault it - especially when clean looks the business - best in indigo blue or black in my opinion

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Cannot complain - never been a passenger in the back though - 6ft persons seated in the back may suffer over long journeys

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

No problems so far - touch wood!

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Cheaper than expected - especially in comparison to equivalent diesel cars - the compromise you make - good economy, big bills or cheap bills, lesser economy?

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

See note re. engine management light - all else perfectly fine
