Value
Overpriced, and trading on (now undeserved) name.
Costs
Don't expect to see the official mpg. And be warned: you need to use the more expensive 98RON fuel with the FSI engine.

Driving
Much improved over Golf Mk4: roadholding is in a different league.
Performance
Disappointing. Not as nippy as the Golf Mk 4 despite higher bhp engine.

So many faults on a new car? Reliability poor!

Usual VW image, plus strong advertising gives this a strong image. But quality doesn't match it!
Comfort
Front seats comfortable for driving and better than Mk4, but plastic edge catches on getting in and out. Rear has much more room than Golf 4, but seats are like a bench and not comfortable.

Seems ok. Not been stolen yet!
Service
Appaling VW aftersales service. They're only interested in getting your money! Reponse to problems has been grudging to say the least, and i've had to fight to the stage of legal action to get anything done. Not good enough!

Rattles and is noisy, needs 98RON fuel and even then does not give official mpg

Interior build quality is extremely poor! the door seals are falling off, numerous rattles, centre console is loose and the car is brand new. Poor show VW!
