Get a Car Information Pack Volkswagen Passat Saloon 2.0 Highline (130ps) 4d (2004/53) - Owner Review Space and economy. The seats fold and while the estate is very popular it's even more heavy - see lacklustre handling. Diesel light economy if treated gently: on runs, it breaks 40mpg everytime. Low insurance (sensible owners apparently) makes this an affordable car to run even for its size. 3 Summary 3 out of 5 What does this car say about you? Too easily mistaken for a fleet car; it's steady Eddie. What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car? Understated and smart but no crowd puller. Would you buy this car again and why? No. It is utterly competent in everything but has no charisma. I'd toy with the idea of V6 Syncro but that'd be touch and go. It's so dull. Having had one before, I need a change and there's that irritating and dangerous heating position. No VW climate control I've used as been that efficient in any event. What are you likely to buy next? Subaru Impreza (non-turbo) or Mondeo ST220/ST155. Buying experience 4 out of 5 Type of dealer you bought from? Didn't buy from a dealer Did you buy this car new? Used What price did you pay? £2,995 When did you buy the car? January 2010 Did you get a good deal and why? With a full history, 2 previous owners and absolutely no damage, this was priced £500 below Parker's recommended price. It was a lot less than a Golf. Is there any special reason why you bought this car? I needed something understated for business, was good value and could take a reasonable load. What was the dealer like? Very accommodating - no pressure. Get an Insurance Quote We've gathered the biggest companies on the market in one place to save you money. GET QUOTE Insurance group: 24 Driving it 2 out of 5 What's it like to drive? You'll see that most reviews suggest that the Passat is a barge. Very true. Even with the Sport option, it struggles to grip if pushed and if feels so heavy when not on the open road. It'll cruise illegally all day long. It is quick but not fast - but only if pushed. What's it like to park? Very easy despite it's length. Reversing sensors are far too pessimistic and I largely ignore them. Living with it 4 out of 5 Have you had any problems with the car? No, it's a VW. What's most practical about your car? Space and economy. The seats fold and while the estate is very popular it's even more heavy - see lacklustre handling. Diesel light economy if treated gently: on runs, it breaks 40mpg everytime. Low insurance (sensible owners apparently) makes this an affordable car to run even for its size. Favourite gadget, option or accessory? The Highline package of leather is excellent quality. Not really a gadget laden vehicle. Least favourite: The climate control/heating is tucked below the radio. It's downright fiddly to use meaning you have to take your eyes of the road. Dear VW, This is surprisingly and stupidly dangerous - move it.
