Peugeot 206 Coupé Cabriolet (01-07) - Review

Review by Dan Harrison on
When it was launched, the 206CC had the small roadster market sewn up. Now its age is starting to show: the driving position is nothing short of peculiar, there are questions over its build quality and it's very cramped inside. Rivals can match - or beat - its status as a fashion accessory and many have copied its favourite party trick - the metal folding roof. But there are more 206CCs around than other small roadsters, both in the car supermarkets and used markets, so finding one at a knock-down price shouldn't be too difficult.

Safety

1.6 only has two airbags compared to the 2.0's four, but it achieved a good four star Euro NCAP crash rating as a hatchback. The hard roof provides extra security, and there's also an alarm, immobiliser and remote central locking.

Reliability

The main problems have stemmed from the roof. It may look fancy, but there have been problems reported with its operation (like getting stuck mid-way) and leaks. If you're buying, it's worth testing that it folds away neatly and even testing the seals with a hose-pipe before buying. Engines seem to be lasting well and there haven't been many reports of faulty electronics.

Body

Car park scrapes.

Engine/Gearbox

Too new to report any significant faults, but be sure to check for a faulty gearbox and a worn clutch.

Other

Roof has been known to leak, and 206s can also suffer from indicator stalk problems and check electric door mirrors (where fitted,) too.
