Peugeot 207 Hatchback (06 on) - Review

Review by Dan Harrison on

The 207 is proof that Peugeot is still capable when it comes to small cars. It's roomy, well equipped, attractively styled and comes with strong petrol and diesel engines. It's also good to drive with sharp steering and good body control - however it's not as refined as alternatives like the Renault Clio and Vauxhall Corsa while the sloppy five-speed gearbox is disappointing. The boot capacity trails behind other small cars too. However the 207 (available as both a three and five-door) is good value for money and safe too. If you're in the market for a small hatchback the Peugeot is certainly worth checking out.

Buying new

Well equipped, reasonably economical and practical - the 207 is a sensible buy. It is a favourite with the car supermarkets, so check the prices that they're offering, before you visit a Peugeot dealer - it'll give you haggling ammunition.

Buying used

It's easy to immediately differentiate 'Classic' (Urban, S and SE) and 'Sport' (Sport and GT) models by looking at the front. Sport models have an eggbox-shaped grille, prominent chrome-surround foglamps and a bonnet that tapers more. The diesel models will carry a premium over the petrols but unless you intend on covering considerable miles, one of the petrol models should suffice.

Selling

Cars of this size are always popular, especially among those who have just passed their tests. Five-door cars tend to be more sought after than the three doors while diesel command a premium over petrols. However with such a strong reputation you'll have no problems selling any well-looked after 207.
