Peugeot 307 SW (02-07) - Review

Review by Parkers on
Last Updated: 19 January 2007
The 307 SW is one of those cars that borrow the lifestyle tag. It's attractively styled, practical, and can hold a couple of extra kids - that's why Peugeot thinks you need one. It also takes the best bits from the 307 hatchback, including a wide choice of engines, good levels of safety and lots of room. Peugeot dealers usually have a good deal on, too. If you don't need the extra seats, then 307 comes as a traditional estate, too.

Safety

All models have six airbags including front and rear curtain bags. Four-star Euro NCAP rating is good, but not class-leading, ABS and Electronic Brake Distribution on all models. Effective immobiliser and deadlocks from Rapier models upwards; alarm with remote control central locking and deadlocks are only standard on the XSI and D-Turbo.

Reliability

Not as good as you'd expect. Nothing major, but lots of niggles and unhappy customers. A new electrical multiplexing system introduced in 2005 should improve reliability.

Car check problem points

Body

Check for damage to bumpers and trim; some paint chipping.

Engine/Gearbox

No significant faults have emerged so far.

Other

Be sure to check the suspension, beware of any loud droning sounds. Flimsy wiper stalks; some reports of poorly finished trim. Some early cars were affected by inaccurate mileage readings - a fault which Peugeot dealers were able to rectify although there was no official recall.
