If you're looking for a modern saloon or estate that offers above average refinement and projects a mature, distinctive image, it's hard to better the 406. Its strengths are class-leading standards of ride, comfort and handling, all wrapped up in spacious and attractive bodies.

If you're looking for a modern saloon or estate that offers above average refinement and projects a mature, distinctive image, it's hard to better the 406. Its strengths are class-leading standards of ride, comfort and handling, all wrapped up in spacious and attractive bodies. The scarce coupe is an exercise in understated elegance. If you can't afford a 3-Series or C-Class but want something a cut above a Mondeo and Vectra, the 406 is a sound choice.

What owners say...

Masses of space for people and luggage. More modern cars seem to be more about exterior looks than interior space.

My 3 kids love riding in the rear seats - loads of space, comfortable and transmission tunnel is not too obstructive

Space - plus I added an LPG conversion (40 litre doughnut style), which has halved my fuel bill. Flexible seating and excellent leg room all round
