Peugeot Bipper Tepee (09 on) - Review

The Bipper Tepee is a small yet practical runabout that's based on the Bipper van - something that's evident in its boxy looks and rather sparse cabin. It may not look very dynamic, but the square shape means plenty of interior space and a large boot. The rear bench seat can fold down plus it's removable allowing you to boost the carrying ability to van-like proportions. On the road it's easy to drive and happy at motorway speeds, while the compact size makes it a doddle to squeeze into small parking spots. Then there's the sliding side doors - a great family-friendly feature that make getting in and out of the back straightforward. The Bipper Tepee is far from the last word in sophistication and refinement, but what it lacks in those areas, it makes up for in value for money, economical engines and low running costs.

Buying new

The Bipper Tepee is almost identical to the Citroen Nemo Multispace and Fiat Qubo - they're even built at the same factory. All are similar in price, but the Peugeot manages to undercut the other two by a few hundred pounds, giving it a slight advantage. Equipment levels across the three are similar but that shouldn't prevent you from trying to get a small discount on the Bipper or some optional extras thrown in for free. If you're going for the S model, it's worth getting air conditioning as it will make it easier to sell.

Buying used

While this Peugeot may not be a particularly common sight on the second hand market, the fact that there's also the Fiat Qubo and Citroen Nemo Multispace should mean a decent choice of cars. The 1.4 HDi is the most economical, but if you don't intend to drive long distances, or spend most of your time in urban areas, the petrol engine is a cheaper option and still frugal with an average of 43mpg.

Selling

Affordable prices, a practical interior and low running costs mean that the Bipper Tepee should be easy to sell. There's a decent level of standard equipment considering the low list price and the extra ground clearance and body cladding of the Outdoor model will appeal to active families.
