Peugeot Bipper Tepee (09 on) - Review

Review by David Ross on
Last Updated: 09 March 2010
The Bipper Tepee is a small yet practical runabout that's based on the Bipper van - something that's evident in its boxy looks and rather sparse cabin. It may not look very dynamic, but the square shape means plenty of interior space and a large boot. The rear bench seat can fold down plus it's removable allowing you to boost the carrying ability to van-like proportions. On the road it's easy to drive and happy at motorway speeds, while the compact size makes it a doddle to squeeze into small parking spots. Then there's the sliding side doors - a great family-friendly feature that make getting in and out of the back straightforward. The Bipper Tepee is far from the last word in sophistication and refinement, but what it lacks in those areas, it makes up for in value for money, economical engines and low running costs.

Running costs

This will be a cheap car to run thanks to economical engines, low car tax costs (particularly with the HDi engine) and competitively priced servicing rates. List prices are very affordable too although it's disappointing that air conditioning isn't standard on the entry-level S model. But service intervals are long at 20,000 miles or two years, whichever comes first. Citroen dealers can be somewhat hit and miss when it comes to customer care and the brand often performs poorly in owners satisfaction surveys.

Emissions summary

With small engines and a low weight, the Bipper is efficient and environmentally friendly. The HDi averages an impressive 63mpg and emits 119g/km of CO2, making it cheap to tax. The petrol may not be quite as impressive, but it's still adequate with a CO2 figure of 155g/km and economy of 43mpg. However, other small petrol cars with similar power outputs are more efficient and economical.
