Peugeot Bipper Tepee (09 on) - Review

The Bipper Tepee is a small yet practical runabout that's based on the Bipper van - something that's evident in its boxy looks and rather sparse cabin. It may not look very dynamic, but the square shape means plenty of interior space and a large boot. The rear bench seat can fold down plus it's removable allowing you to boost the carrying ability to van-like proportions. On the road it's easy to drive and happy at motorway speeds, while the compact size makes it a doddle to squeeze into small parking spots. Then there's the sliding side doors - a great family-friendly feature that make getting in and out of the back straightforward. The Bipper Tepee is far from the last word in sophistication and refinement, but what it lacks in those areas, it makes up for in value for money, economical engines and low running costs.

Safety

The Bipper Tepee hasn't been crash tested by Euro NCAP but the near identical Citroen Nemo Multispace was only awarded three stars out of five by the organisation. This was under the tougher regime which is now one overall rating that takes into account adult occupant safety as well as child and pedestrian protection and a rear impact whiplash test. Part of the problem is that the Nemo isn't available with ESP stability control, even as an optional extra and doesn't have a curtain airbag as standard. This is also the case with the Peugeot. However it does have Isofix child seat mounting points on the outer rear seats, twin front airbags, side airbags (incorporated into the sides of the front seats) and seatbelt pre-tensioners.

Reliability

When it comes to reliability, Peugeot doesn't have the best track record, but it's an area the brand is focussed on improving. The Bipper Tepee is based on the Bipper van so should certainly be mechanically robust and there are few gadgets to go wrong. Both engines have been well proven in a variety of Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat vehicles.
