Peugeot Expert Tepee (07 on) - Review

Large people carriers have often been mocked in the past for being little more than vans with windows. While this might be a little unfair to sophisticated vehicles like the Renault Espace and Ford Galaxy, it's an efficient way of moving large number of people. Peugeot's Expert Tepee is actually based on a van - the Expert. While this means a boxy shape, it also results in good versatility thanks to a flat floor, a choice of lengths and seats for up to nine. Few sacrifices have to be made on board either, as the Tepee comes with most of the kit you would expect on a people carrier. Developed jointly with sister company Citroen and Fiat, the Citroen Dispatch Combi and Fiat Scudo Panorama are near identical vehicles.

Running costs

The Tepee doesn't cost a great deal more than small seven-seat people carriers. However, we would suggest that the Comfort models at the lower end of the scale are what we expect to be used as mini-cabs, while the Leisure models - only available with the more powerful engine - are more likely to be considered for private use. All should comfortably achieve around 40mpg and shouldn't be costly to service or insure.

Emissions summary

Two efficient diesel engines are offered and depending on the configuration of the Tepee, CO2 emissions range from 191-198g/km. Not bad for such a large, heavy vehicle. If you split it among nine potential occupants, you could count it as 22g/km per person. This would compare well with the best four and five-seaters on the market.
