Porsche 911 Cabriolet (05 on) - Review

Like the Coupe, the 911 Cabriolet has benefitted from constant evolution making it quicker and more useable than ever. While it may not seem an obvious choice in the UK, it does add that extra bit of posing ability and looks just as good as the rest of the 911 range. Lowering the fabric roof is quick and simple - and doing so allows you to enjoy the incredible noise of the engine even more, while the sense of speed and acceleration is further heightened. And although it doesn't have a fixed roof, it's as good to drive as the Coupe and handles equally as well thanks to a rigid body shell. In mid-2008 it was facelifted, along with the rest of the 911 range, with subtle exterior tweaks plus new engines. A double-clutch PDK automatic gearbox was also introduced.

Buying new

If you're hopeful of negotiating a discount you'll need to be very persuasive indeed. Porsche dealers aren't under pressure to sell large numbers and demand is strong. You can opt to collect your car from the factory in Stuttgart and enjoy a tour of the facility as a part of the package. Although you'll pay more than £1,000 for the privilege.

Buying used

A used example is tempting because you won't have to spend on optional extras as you almost certainly would on a new car. It may take a while to find the right car if you're after a particular specification - few 911 models are alike such is the extent of the options list. Check that the roof works as it should.

Selling

Examples don't need to be in perfect condition to sell, but a full Porsche service history is a must. Dealers don't offer vast trade-in sums but the 911 is always a favourite among buyers and should be easy to sell.
