Porsche broke with its sports car tradition when it launched the Cayenne 4x4 in 2003 and the Panamera marks another big step - it's the first ever four-seater saloon to be produced by the carmaker.

At almost five metres long it offers luxuriously spacious travel, especially for those in the back, helped further by a refined ride.

Buying new

The Panamera isn't a cheap buy and standard equipment levels aren't overly generous but it does come with luxuries such as satellite navigation and leather upholstery. Porsche dealers aren't under pressure to sell in large numbers and it will be in demand so you'll struggle to get any sort of decent discount. Be careful when choosing optional extras too, what may be a useful feature may not add anything to the value should you decide to sell.

Parkers price projector

The Parkers price projector shows you how much your car is likely to be worth after three years and 60,000 miles if you're selling to a dealer. The graph shows how steep the depreciation is for the entire range (the top line shows the more expensive models in the range; the other shows the cheaper).

Parkers price projector is based on decades of market expertise and analysis to current trends.

Buying used

The cheapest models will be the standard V6 petrol model which is quick enough for most but it doesn't come with the preferred PDK automatic gearbox as standard - instead it has a six-speed manual which also offers a slower 0-62mph time. Porsche dealers will be the best place to find well-cared-for examples through the firm's Porsche Approved scheme. Among other benefits this gives you a 12-month warranty along with UK and European breakdown cover.

Selling

The Panamera is quite a unique model and the Porsche badge alone gives it the edge over other four-seater saloons and larger sports cars. It will always create plenty of interest and there will be no trouble selling one with all models in demand. Obviously a full Porsche service history is essential to get the best money.
