Renault Clio Sport Tourer (08 on) - Review

Renault’s Clio Sport Tourer has been designed to appeal to those who need some decent carrying capacity combined with low running costs. Going head to head with cars like Peugeot’s 207 SW and the Skoda Fabia Estate the Clio deserves some serious consideration, not least when fitted to the efficient and smooth 86bhp diesel. In May 2009 the whole Clio range benefitted from a smart new facelift.

Comfort

With supportive seats, minimal road or engine noise and a good amount of legroom, the comfortable cabin is serene and feels pleasantly upmarket. The rear seats are ideal for three kids, but three adults may feel a little squashed on long journeys. The Fabia estate offers better headroom throughout.

Practicality

Choose the Skoda Fabia estate if your main priority is space. The Skoda by far eclipses the Renault for bootspace both seats up and down. Higher-spec models get a versatile split-folding rear seat as standard. Handily, the parcel shelf can be detached and stowed under the removable boot floor. For further carrying capacity, roof rails are fitted as standard.

Behind the wheel

It’s easy to find a good driving position quickly. The driver’s seat and steering wheel are both height adjustable, while the steering wheel adjusts for reach on higher spec models. The supportive driver’s seat ensures pain-free lengthy journeys without being uncomfortably firm. Both driver and front passenger should find the functional centre console intuitive and simple to use. All-round visibility is good.
